Hey All,

Well as you probably figured out all ready there isn't good news to report.
We had our typical start and were down 3-0 after the first three minutes of
the game (all in man-down situations).   By the end of the first quarter
Detroit had a 4-1 lead.  The second quarter belonged to Mount Adams as we
outscored Detroit 2-1 for a halftime margin of 5-3.

In the third we managed to get within one goal at 5-4.  However, after that
Detroit opened up a lead.  Most of their goals came from attack isos and
transition goals.  In the fourth quarter there was a great deal of suspense
as Detroit's lead was whittled down to 4 goals, but in the end Detroit won
by 7 goals, 2 more than they needed to get in the playoffs and to knock us
out.  I think the final score was 14-7.

Everyone was very disappointed about the loss.  I think I am speaking for
everybody when I say that this season was a heartbreaker.  Hopefully we can
learn from the mistakes we made this year and improve.

On the ride back the people I spoke to thought recruitment is our best
avenue for improvement.  Most felt that we have good players we just need
more players to rotate in.

Please try to recruit hard this off-season.  When you have a lead please
forward his name to me, Bill, Rusty or Mully.

Have a great summer.

CU,

Tom

A note from Rusty

Sunday May 19th
Well the Big game is here. This determines a tournament slot or not.  I'll
be calling everyone to confirm who can and can't make it! I wanted to
also send out this e-mail for those of you who want to respond and
confirm "YES" you can go. The game is on a Sunday so we will probably
leave early Sunday and come back late. I will call or send out an e-mail
on what time we will leave.

This is a VERY IMPORTANT GAME TO WIN so please do everything you can to
make it. I would like to know by Wednesday at the latest. Let's put the
past behind us and move on with our team. We can beat Detroit, but we
need everyone there to do it! We have a great team and we need to get
over this hump. A win in Detroit is just what the doctor ordered. I love
playing this game and I'm going to continue to do what I can to make our
team the best team it can be. I need HELP from some of you other guys to
make this happen. We also need to recruit some new guys so do what you
can!!!

I want to say thanks for those of you who made the treck to Chicago! I
had a great time hang'in out with you and I got to play A LOT of
Lacrosse. (I'm not complaining) :)

Well have a great weekend and I'll be talkin to ya soon!

A note from Bill

Gentlemen,
As the forwarded results show, we are still in third place in the MCLC East.
Motor City dropped two games this weekend, Cleveland dropped two games this
weekend, and Mt Adams dropped two games this weekend.   Cincinnati  remains
undefeated, so they are number one in the East, with final standings
depending on whether Cincinnati or Columbus wins their head-to-head match up.

We played well against both Cincinnati and Columbus and are competitive
against them, which will put us in good shape for the tournament.  We need to
beat Motor City to be the number 3 seed in the East - it will give us a
better first round tournament game.  Also, with the tournament in Columbus,
we can expect that the Chicago teams and Twin Cities will not travel as well,
so will field weaker teams than in Chicago.

Because of work, I was not able to participate in either game in Chicago.
Congratulations to the proud few who did.

Now, for the rest of the season:
We go to Detroit on Sunday May 19, the weekend after Mother's Day.  We
either play Louisville or participate in a round-robin in Louisville the first
weekend in June.  And the next weekend, June 8 and 9, is the MCLC tournament
in Columbus.

Gentlemen, Mt Adams can make it to the championship game in Columbus.  That
game is likely to include either Columbus or Cincinnati, both teams that we
can beat if ALL of our players show up ready to play.  But we need to beat
Motor City first.

Best regards,
Bill

A note from Tom

Great effort by everyone who attended this weekend!  We have a game in two
weeks against Detroit.  We need that game to make the playoffs.  Everyone
please plan to attend.  Game recaps from this weekend are below.

MA 8   TC 10
The first game was against Twin Cities on a surface that was more like a
parking lot with broken scattered glass than a lacrosse field.

In the first quarter MA got off to a shaky start.  I think the score was 5-0
after only 10 minutes of play and 5-1 after the first quarter was over.

The second quarter belonged to MA as the defense shut down TC and the
offense added another goal to make it 5-2.  MA was strong again in the third
quarter and added 2 more goals.  It was 6-4 as we entered the fourth
quarter.

In the fourth we traded goals back and forth, and with less than 2 minutes
remaining we pulled within one, 9-8.  The defense took some risks to try to
gain possession, but unfortunately the risks didn't pay off and TC ended up
getting a broken play insurance goal to finish the game.  TC 10 MA 8

MA 3   Lincoln Park 10
The second game was against the undefeated juggernaut Lincoln Park.  For a
variety of reasons (last minute game time changes, unpermitted field, etc.)
MA could have taken a forfeit, but, to their credit, everybody voted to play
anyway.

Lincoln Park had looked invincible in their prior game as they toyed with
Detroit and ended up winning 23-3.  At the start of our game it looked as if
LP might have their way with us as well.  LP jumped out to an early lead and
by the end of the first quarter were up by 3 or 4 goals, approx 4-1.

MA improved in the second quarter and kept the game tight and at the half
the score was 5-2 or 6-2.  MA played tough in the second half and had very
good time of possession, but LP played tough defense and didn't give up many
good looks.  Final score LP 10 MA 3.

Let's beat Detroit!  CU

A note from Russ

Win or lose, Chicago is a fun trip. Playing while up there is just a bonus in my opinion.
And on a side note:

Damn! We should have played Motor City in Chicago! Make a note for next year....

XU as a game-type practice.

Teammates,
I think the days of calling everyone is back. I didn't look at my e-mail
until Sat morning. Sorry! Tom, I did get your message the other night but

it was too late to call. I hope we had enough guys for a scrimmage.

As far as last weekend, It's always is a tough loss against Cinci but we
know we can beat them. I also agree the defense played great. The middies
were a little outnumbered and we were short a few players. No excuses! We
have a chance to play them again on the 28th so I will be calling
everyone to confirm.

Cortina is trying to recruit players from other teams! We all need to try
and recruit players at all times. You see how many players Cinci had, we
need to do the same!!!

We have a great team and I love playing lax with you guys, I'm going to
try and help us communicate better and I think this will help us feel and
play better!!!!!!

You'll be hearing from me this week!
Thanks,

Columbus Needs Late Rally to Beat Rams 15-11
The Mt Adams Rams hung with the defending MCLC champs for 3½ quarters before bowing in a 15-11 decision.

The Rams got off to a quick start with an early 3-1 lead and managed to hang with the talented
Columbus team through most of the game. Sean Murphy had an outstanding game in goal and
Rouse had a strong day at midfield with 3 goals and an assist.

After trailing 11-7 going into the 4th quarter, Ross scored from the crease and Mt Adams converted 2 extra
man opportunities to pull within 11-10. It was at this point that Columbus finally started to think they might
not win this.

After a Columbus goal, Rouse scored unassisted to again pull the Rams within 1 at 12-11. But with 3 minutes
to go, a missed push call on the goalie led to a strange series of events that wound up with Rouse in the goal.
Columbus took advantage and then iced it with 2 garbage goals to seal it.

Mt Adams Beats Cleveland for 1st Time EVER
The Mt Adams Lax Club beat Cleveland Saturday 10-5 for their first MCLC win of the season.

After an abysmal 1st quarter, the Rams trailed 3-0. However, they turned it around in the
following 3 periods by outscoring Cleveland 10-2. The Rams (once kicked out of the league

due to non-competitiveness) have now beaten every team from the Eastern Conference.

Chris "LOCO" Prentice was once again the top scorer with 4 goals. The "Other" Chris (Cortina)
also found his range late with 2 goals and 2 assists. The defense and goal tender also gain
praise for shutting Cleveland down for 2 quarters.

We will play Cleveland at our home field on Saturday at 3:30 and Columbus on
Sunday at 2:00. If you are on extra man, please show up Saturday at 2:30-2:45
so we can run through our plays.

We will be wearing our home whites for both games.

Rusty will be in contact with several players to help get the field ready.
The following have already signed up to help:

Laska, Chavez (I have??), Ross.

Since we have two games this weekend, if you don't get much playing time on
Saturday we will make sure you make it up on Sunday.

FYI reminder

Mt Adams news is posted on the website http://www.cincinnatilax.com/

Also to all butt heads - when I write "let me know if you cannot make it" it
means "let me know if you cannot make it".

Especially on away games, we cannot be caught making a 4 hour trip and find out
we only have 9 guys. Be responsible and send an email or call.

If we are short... we need to know ahead of time.

Rams Win 1st in 2002 Season
The Mt. Adams Rams defeated Circle City 12-6 for their 1st win of the season.

Both teams showed up with small benches but played tough the entire game.
Prentice and Rouse got the offense going early and the Rams took a 4-2 1st
quarter lead that they would never relinquish.   Miller, Cockfield, and Newbauer

played strong defense and, with good clears, enabled Mt. Adams to keep the ball on
the offensive end.

The Rams have this week off and will open the MCLC season with a pair of games
against Cleveland and Columbus on April 6th and 7th.

Mt. Adams Offense "Offensive" in 6-5 Loss
The Mt. Adams Lacrosse team opened up their 2002 season with a 6-5 overtime loss
to Miami University.

After falling behind 2-0 early, the offense settled down and tallied the final 3 goals of the 1st quarter for a 3-2 lead.
Miami scored
once in the 2nd quarter to knot the game a 3-3 at halftime.
With the game tied 5-5 after 3 quarters the 4th quarter was a series of bad shots and blown opportunities.
That lasted until a poor call gave Miami the extra man opportunity they needed to put the game away.

A strong performance was turned in by the goalie and defense in keeping the Rams in the game.
